Charlotte County Real Estate

Charlotte County is located on the southwest coast of the State of Florida and comprises 858 square miles of which approximately 21% is water. Lee County is to the south and neighboring Sarasota County is to the northwest.

The county was established in 1921 and draws its name from the Bay of Charlotte Harbor with “Charlotte” the English word for Carlota, so designated when the Spanish arrived in 1565. The English named the area Charlotte Harbor as a tribute to Queen Charlotte Sophia, the wife of King George III in 1775. Punta Gorda is the only incorporated city in Charlotte County. The Charlotte Harbor Estuary, a natural preserve in the county, is recognized as one of the productive in Florida.
