If you’re still trying to plan your summer vacation, consider a trip to Sanibel and Captiva. While the cooler months of the year often bring in visitors eager to escape snow and dipping temperatures, the summer season is also a great time to vacation on the islands.

One big perk of visiting Sanibel and Captiva during the summer months is that the beaches are sometimes slightly less crowded. This is the time of year you might be able to spot manatees closer to shore or hatching birds when you venture out on a paddleboard or kayak. The summer season is also the time when sea turtles lay their eggs and some of the island’s most vivid colors begin to bloom.

If you’re interested in shelling, you’ve come to the right place! Lighthouse Beach on Sanibel Island is a great place to find shells, especially close to the historic lighthouse. It’s also a good location to take a nature walk, spot birdlife and do some fishing off the pier.

The Causeway Beaches are fantastic for watching dolphins, swimming and wading, plus even taking up kite boarding and wind surfing. Another advantage is that you don’t even have to pay to park.

For fishing, you may want to think about heading to Blind Pass. The warmer months are often a great time of year for fishing at Turner Beach.

You may find smaller lines or even no crowds to get in some of the most popular restaurants during the summer. You may also be able to find some lower travel rates. Some local resorts add in incentives to get visitors to come to the islands during the summer, including free night stays, dining credits and reward coupons.

You’ll also find plenty of planned events too, including fishing tournaments, sailing camps, walking tours and more during the summer season.
