The North Course at Shadow Wood Country Club is back open and better than ever, following a round of summer renovations that greatly improved the course. Guided by notes left by the original course designer, Bob Cupp, architects took a closer look and review of the entire course, then worked to better enhance the quality of each hole. While keeping with the original design principles, renovation crews helped to better modernize the course. This included adding new membership tees, plus increasing the size of some of them, while adjusting the location of others. Crews also rebuilt the greens entirely and re-contoured them. They rebuilt and redesigned the greenside bunkers, and removed some of them. As well, they rebuilt the rock walls surrounding the ponds to not only make them more aesthetically pleasing but also to work better with the course. Other improvements included addressing the fairway bunkers by removing them, relocating them or reconstructing them. The North Course improvement plan took the entire summer, and was just recently reopened to golfers. Located close to Coconut Road and US 41, the private Bonita Springs club is member-owned. In all, Shadow Wood Country Club offers three championship golf courses. Also designed by Bob Cupp, the South Course includes several water features along with large landing areas. In comparison, the Preserve Course was designed by Arthur Hills. It’s noted for its beautiful scenery, as the course winds throughout marshes, undisturbed wetlands and wooded areas. Shadow Wood also boasts its own Golf Academy and the property commonly offers group clinics and private golf lessons. The location hosts upwards of 200 annual events, including everything from state tournaments to those geared specifically toward local residents. The popular club additionally supplies a tennis facility, bocce ball courts, and several options in on-site dining, from more casual to more formal selections. Membership options range from access to the clubhouse, dining and social opportunities on up to full golf memberships.
