Widely known as a fantastic place for shelling and for having some fun in the sun, Sanibel Island also happens to be one of the most charming beach towns around. At least that’s what the experts at Travelmag.com say.

The website recently put Sanibel Island on its list of “The 30 Most Charming Beach Towns in the USA”. Travelmag mentioned not only shelling at places like Bowman’s Beach on the barrier island, but also the opportunity to visit the Baily-Matthews National Shell Museum.

In addition, the article mentioned the island’s strong focus on conservation. Much of Sanibel Island is dedicated to wildlife. In particular, the website mentioned spotting turtles, alligators, birds and possibly an occasional bobcat at JN Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on the island.

Found off the coast of Southwest Florida, Sanibel is merely a short drive away from Fort Myers. The island is a good place to do some fishing, boating, or indulge in some local seafood.

Sanibel is also the place to stroll through local shops and galleries, take in a spectacular sunset, or do some kayaking and paddle boarding. You’ll find some hotels and resorts on the island too, along with some condos, motels and small inns.

Analysts at Travelmag polled bloggers, photographers, writers and more to come up with this year’s list of the most charming beach towns in the nation. To be considered, a town had to have less than 30,000 residents.

Not surprisingly, Florida had the most beach towns on the list this year. Sanibel was one of four locations mentioned.

Destin, Key West and St Augustine also made the list. While the Sunshine State had the most locations for 2020, the website also mentioned places in Hawaii, Washington state, California and many other charming beach towns stretching from Florida to Maine.
