Sanibel Gets Love as Top Family Vacation Spot

It’s a great place for those of all ages to visit, but now Sanibel is getting some recognition as a top family vacation spot. The island was recently listed as number three when it comes to the “Best Family Beach Vacations in the U.S.”.

The honor comes from US News & World Report. The website looked at a list of factors, including those locations with kid-friendly attractions and safe waters.

Analysts also looked at spacious accommodations, local dining options and multi-generational appeal in determining the very best places for a family beach vacation in the nation. The website considered user opinions in the ranking, as well.

When it comes to Sanibel Island, the website pointed out the location is a big hit for those with kids. Not only is the water calm in this area, but many people come to Sanibel for its fantastic shelling opportunities.

Places like Blind Pass Beach and Bowman’s Beach are considered great places to search for shells and sand dollars. US News also pointed out the appeal of JN Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

A four-mile long stretch through the refuge is a good place to spot wildlife. In addition, the attraction features an education area with interactive exhibits in the children’s area.

If that’s not enough, the website points out the island’s laid-back appeal. Much quieter and low-key than nearby Fort Myers, Sanibel is a great place to spend some time out on the sand enjoying an array of family-friendly activities.

In recent years Sanibel was designated as the number one family-friendly vacation spot in the nation by FamilyFun magazine. Readers also named it the top tourist town.

Sanibel has wide paved bike paths that make bike riding a breeze on the island. Some rental locations deliver bicycles right to hotel guests, while other accommodations have complimentary bike rentals.
