Sanibel Beaches Top Ranked in Florida

If you hope to experience some of Florida’s best beaches, Sanibel Island is the place to be. In fact, the Travel Channel just ranked Sanibel beaches as among the best. It’s hardly the only honor for beaches on the island, though. USA Today also considers the island as one of the state’s best attractions and in the past Weather Channel Facebook friends additionally voted the island as tops for shelling. In fact, that’s one of the biggest draws for people who visit the beaches of Sanibel. Not only are the beaches beautiful, but they’re fantastic for shelling. In particular, Lighthouse Beach is a great place to spend time searching for shells, with calm waves and plenty of room for families to spread out. If you’re on the hunt for shells, try searching close to the site’s historic lighthouse. Upwards of a century old, the lighthouse isn’t the only area attraction. There’s also a fishing pier and a boardwalk that weaves throughout the native wetlands. While parking comes with a fee, there’s no fee for bicyclists. For watersports including kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing and swimming, you won’t want to miss out on the Causeway Beaches. These particular beaches are also great for fishing, picnicking or simply soaking up some sun. You may even spot some dolphins out in the water. With free parking too, the Causeway Beaches are a true favorite of locals and visitors, alike. With a more secluded setting, Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel is quieter than some of the others. The white beach does, however, contain room for grilling, plus some large vehicle parking, picnic tables, a canoe and kayak launch and nature trails. Finally, Blind Pass Beach is a favorite for those on both Sanibel and Captiva. This popular beach is a good location for fishing or shelling, but not particularly for swimming, due to its swift currents.
