Fort Myers Named Top Retirement Destination

A great place to live, work, vacation and play, Fort Myers is also a top destination for retirees. That’s according to several different rankings, all of which put Fort Myers extremely high on the list, especially for retirees.
One of the most recent awards comes from Newsmax. The website points out area residents don’t have to worry about any state taxes, plus Fort Myers is well known for its blue skies and sunshine.
Besides its enviable climate, Newsmax considered a variety of other things too, such as quality of life and cost of living. It also took into account a sense of community and access to affordable health care.
Newsmax points out the city’s been a favorite of retirees for years, as evident by the likes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison who both built vacation homes in the area years ago. Fort Myers is also, of course, in a great location for those who love to go to the beach.
Florida for Boomers is another website that ranks Fort Myers high on its list. Analysts put together a list of 2020’s “25 Best Places to Retire in Florida”, and once again Fort Myers did extremely well.
The website noted the city offers “the perfect combination of recreation and relaxation”. It pointed out the many top-rated golf courses and great shopping, plus opportunities for things like deep-sea fishing and exploring the region’s white sand beaches.
In particular, Florida for Boomers mentioned such 55 plus communities as Valencia Bonita. The community offers villas and single-family homes, topped off by a resort-inspired lifestyle.
Previously, U.S. News and World Report released its own list of the “Best Places to Retire in the U.S. 2020”. In its list, analysts put Fort Myers in the number one spot for the nation.
The website points out Fort Myers continues to grow, but at the same time retains a small-town feel. It makes mention of its charming downtown, its art galleries, parks, festivals and theaters.
