Fort Myers Area Named Top Place to Retire

Fort Myers has been named a top retirement and wallet-friendly city by both WalletHub in its list of Best & Worst Places to Retire and Forbes magazine. WalletHub analyzed the 150 largest cities in the U.S. to help Americans find the best place to retire. WalletHub looked at lots of data from cost of living to job prospects to availability of recreational activities for workers aged 65 and older. Each city’s quality of life and health care conditions were also evaluated. Forbes magazine named Fort Myers in its list of Top 25 Best Places to Retire in 2012. Fort Myers, named a top retirement and wallet-friendly city, offers good weather, above average air quality and affordable living. To ease the process of finding a new place to call home for retiring baby boomers, RealtyTrac put its own list together and found older adults prefer to retire in Southwest Florida, as their parents once did. In Florida, Lee County made the Top 10 list for baby boomer population growth: Cape Coral-Fort Myers with a population of 28.1% boomers, and a 27.6% growth since 2007. The Baby Boomer generation is moving from higher-priced to lower-priced markets for buying and renting. For American workers who are struggling to make ends meet, many are working longer years without giving thought yet to retiring. Many cannot afford to retire when they want or plan to. However, the day will come. So for workers who haven’t been able to grow a nest egg for the future, many retirees plan to relocate to an area where they can stretch their dollars and live out their lives in a comfortable city. The Fort Myers area is an ideal location to retire, and comes up on many lists as a Top Place to Retire.
