Pickleball Equipment[/caption]
Combine badminton, ping pong and tennis in a blender and voila…..you have the sport of pickleball. Played on a court (20 ft x 44 ft) that is smaller than a tennis court with a lower net, pickleball uses a plastic ball that that looks like a wiffle ball.
With less running and a slower moving ball than tennis, pickleball is gaining in popularity particularly in 55+ communities throughout the country. The sport is catching on in Southwest Florida and communities in the Fort Myers area with pickleball include:
Pelican Preserve - Three lighted dedcated pickleball courts
Heron's Glen - Six tennis couts lined for pickleball
Bonita Bay - Two pickleball courts
Brookshire - Two pickleball courts
Cinnamon Cove - Two tennis courts taped for pickleball
Golfview - Two lighted tennis courts taped for pickleball
For more information, the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) maintains a database of places to play pickleball in Florida.
