Fort Myers Area Bike Trails

With high gas prices across the nation, sales of new bicycles have nearly doubled for some Fort Myers retailers.  In addition to being a good (and healthy) way to get around the area, the bike-trail system in Fort Myers is being enjoyed by bike enthusiasts for commuting and recreational use.  The connected network of paved shared-use pathways allows for safe, enjoyable long bike rides throughout the Fort Myers area. South Lee County residents can have healthier bodies, save gas by limiting car use, and cut down on air pollution by taking advantage of the many splendid bike trails offered by Lee County and the City of Fort Myers.  Here are highlights of two area bike trails:

• The John Yarbrough Linear Park Trail is open sunrise to sunset.  The 6-mile paved multi-use trail allows bicycling, walking, jogging, hiking, rollerblading, on-leash dog walking, fishing, birding, wildlife viewing, and picnicking.  The park amenities include pavilions, way-finding signs, trash receptacles, dog stations and benches.   The trail runs parallel to Metro Parkway and can be accessed by sidewalk or paths at: Six Mile Cypress Slough Parkway, Daniels Parkway, Crystal Drive, and Colonial Boulevard.
• North Colonial Linear Park Trail is open sunrise to sunset.  The 3-mile paved multi-use trail allows bicycling, walking, hiking, jogging, rollerblading, on-leash dog walking, fishing, birding and wildlife viewing.  The trail has way-finding signs and amenities are available at the Trailhead Neighborhood Park.  The trail runs between Metro Parkway and Six Mile Cypress Parkway, north of Colonial Boulevard.
