One of Florida’s top beaches, Lovers Key State Park is perfect for people who want to spend a day on a natural island that is also easy to access.  Lovers Key gained its name as a popular courting destination for young lovers, before the construction of the Bonita Beach Causeway.  Couples would travel to the island by boat and picnic, and enjoy its remote and solitary beach. Today, Lovers Key is an undeveloped barrier island with a native landscape and many outdoor activities.  It’s one of 4 barrier islands that make up this state park.  Park Rangers offer guided tours.  A haven for wildlife, the islands and their waters are home to manatees, dolphins, bald eagles, and other native birds and animals. The wide and long 2-mile beach offers plenty of space for private sunbathing.  Bike and hiking trails can be found here.  Lovers Key has sheltered paddling for canoeing and kayaking, and a great area for wade fishing.  Tram services run to and from the beach; restroom and vending machines are available.  It is popular for shelling, swimming, picnicking and sunbathing.  This state park boasts nature trails, and includes an observation area, a volleyball net and a gazebo.
