In good news for the region, D. R. Horton has purchased a planned, but never built development on Tamiami Trail in South Fort Myers. The national builder plans to construct resort-style four-plex condominium buildings with attached garages and private entries on the site. Development work has already begun with the project slated to open for sales by the end of this year. D.R. Horton has purchased more than 32 acres off U.S. 41 adjacent to the Shadow Wood Preserve Golf and Country Club for $2.63 million. The previous buyers of the land had zoned the property for a 168-unit condominium development called Rosarno, which included six 4-story condo buildings and 72 coach homes overlooking a 4-acre lake. The Rosarno property in South Fort Myers sits on a great location close to shopping, beaches, RSW Airport and Interstate I-75. The central location of the Rosarno project offers easy access to major destinations of Southwest Florida, including shopping at Coconut Point Mall, Florida Gulf Coast University and Germain Arena. In addition, The Karl Drews Community Center is popular with area residents for its activities and amenities, such as a heated swimming pool and skateboard park. Golfers can enjoy the 18-hole course at the San Carlos Golf & Country Club.
