Discover Why Sanctuary at Wulfert Point is So Revered

Found at the very northern tip of Sanibel Island, Sanctuary at Wulfert Point is where you’ll find the island’s only private golf club. Encircled by the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve, the Sanctuary Golf Club truly lives up to its name.

These days the peaceful and prestigious community offers a championship, Arthur Hills-designed golf course, a new clubhouse, a swimming pool, fitness center and Har-Tru tennis courts. Built up starting around the early 1990s, the community also consists of some luxury single-family homes, villas and condos.

Some of the custom homes of The Sanctuary overlook the golf course, a preservation area, or a nearby lake. Some of the homes also come with private swimming pools, gourmet kitchens and plenty of built-ins.

Whether you enjoy spending time out on the golf course, enjoying one of the club’s many other amenities, or time out exploring the natural beauty of the region, Sanctuary is truly a special place to own property. While the community itself is less than three-decades old, the very first settlers to come to Wulfert Point came in the late 1800s.

Some of their homes once stood where you’ll now find the club’s golf course. At the time, the area also featured a cemetery, a post office and a dock.

Fierce storms in the 1920s left their mark, and many area residents moved on around this time. Flash forward to the 1970s and 1980s and a new idea was hatched to construct a private golf course community in the area. Eventually the golf course went in and its clubhouse went up.

Around 100 years after the first settlers arrived and made their homes in the area, a new, upscale community was open to homebuyers on Sanibel Island. Today, there are still a few options to purchase land within Sanctuary, but there are also some delightful homes to choose from.
