Demand Growing for Multi-generational Homes

Home styles are always evolving, but it seems demand is really growing right now for multi-generational homes. One recent study found it’s something up to 15-percent of buyers are searching for.

It’s a trend analysts first started following nearly a decade ago. These days, it seems many people are looking for the extra space to bring aging parents into their own home.

With the on-going pandemic and many schools forced into remote learning situations, it’s thought some people may be mixing households to support the need for in-home childcare. Other families are pooling their money in order to afford one home large enough to include extended family members, while still others have young adults living at home longer.

Of course, a multi-generational home is often larger in size, which means more room for home office space and remote learning space. Fort Myers homebuyers already have some good options in terms of multi-generational homes to choose from.

Lennar offers what it calls its Next Gen - A Home Within a Home floor plan. The company’s Next Gen design offers a completely separate living suite with its own bedroom, bath, kitchenette and living room.

It also comes with its own laundry and its own entrance, which can be a real bonus for families who want to live under one roof, but still want some privacy. Lennar is offering Next Gen homes in communities in Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral and Estero.

One of the communities in Estero where you’ll find the Next Gen floor plan is The Preserve at Corkscrew. The Lennar designs come in two different floor plans.

Lennar’s Independence plan is a five-bedroom, 3.5-bath home. It is a two-story design with a three-car garage and around 3,300 square feet of living space.

Lennar is also offering what it calls its Liberation floor plan. This home includes six-bedrooms and 4.5-baths. It is also a two-story home with a three-car garage. This floor plan is larger than the Independence, as it includes around 3,800 square feet of living space.
