A multi-million dollar renovation plan is on tap for Bonita Bay. The club’s board recently signed off on a $6.6 million project aimed at making improvements to its Bay Island golf course.

The Arthur Hills-designed course is said to be one of Bonita Bay’s most challenging courses. Now a quarter of a century old, Bay Island is in for improvements to all of its fairways, bunkers and greens, bringing them more in line with the original design.

Plans also call for bringing some new design principles into the course. In addition, Bay Island is due for some bridge improvements and a new irrigation system.

The club plans to begin its latest renovation project in April of this year, with hopes of finishing by November. The updates to Bay Island are likely just the beginning, though. There’s already talk of making possible future improvements to all Bonita Bay Club courses.

Bay Island is one of three golf courses that make up the Bonita Bay Community of Bonita Springs. The property is also home to the Creekside and Marsh courses, designed by Arthur Hills. In addition, the club supplies two Tom Fazio-designed courses, the Sabal course and the Cypress course, both of which are located at Bonita Bay Club Naples.

A few years ago Bonita Bay completed a separate $11.5 million project involving clubhouse upgrades. At the time crews transformed the old golf shop into an open-air bar and grill with a fire pit patio, creating a new lounge and gathering space for members.

The club also added in a new Golf Super Center for its pro shop, updated its ballroom and kitchen area, plus made other functional and style updates to further modernize the property. As part of that same project Bonita Bay renovated its golf course irrigation system and upgraded some of its golf cart paths.
