Cape Royal Upgrades Underway

Upgrades are underway at Cape Royal following the sale of the Royal Tee Golf Course to the neighborhood homeowners association earlier this year. Former owners shuttered the golf course last August, leaving the nearby 27-hole course out of business. The purchase in January of this year included 225-acres containing the golf course, walking trails and a clubhouse, complete with a restaurant and bar. Set to be open to the public in the near future, the formerly semi-private golf course had been being maintained by the homeowners association, cutting the grass and performing basic maintenance in efforts to keep home values steady. HOA fees within Cape Coral now come out to an $850 annual assessment, with another almost $300 per property going to the golf course purchase. The investment amounts to less than a dollar a day for all property owners within Cape Royal, with plans to have another company come in to lease and operate the property, including the clubhouse and the golf course. While it’s been estimated in the past that only about 20 to 25-percent of residents within the community identify as golfers, about 91-percent of property owners who voted on whether to buy the course were in favor of making the purchase. The gated neighborhood of Cape Royal includes large home sites surrounding the golf course and nearly two-dozen lakes, many of which offer sweeping golf course or water views. The neighborhood provides nearly 500 single-family homes. Along with the golf course, Cape Royal also boasts its own bocce league, bowling league and other community-centric groups and clubs. Found along Pine Island Road, the neighborhood and golf course is located just to the east of Burnt Store Road and Veterans Parkway. The purchase of the golf course and club maintains the Cape Royal neighborhood’s reputation as the only gated golfing community within Cape Coral.
