Bowman’s Beach: A Sanibel Gem

A true gem of Sanibel, Bowman’s Beach is likely one of the most popular beaches in the area. That’s despite a quiet setting, for it feels more like an undiscovered stretch of sand then a popular beach when you first arrive. It takes about five-minutes to hike from the parking area out to the beach, but you’ll likely spend a considerable amount of time exploring all that the beach has to offer once you get there. While some people only spend a couple of hours at the beach, others stay here for half the day, for it’s possible to walk for miles unobstructed along the shell-covered white sand beach without running into much development at all. That makes it quite different than some other more developed beaches in the region. A great place for shelling, some say the best way to find shells at Bowman’s Beach is to head out in the water and dig your feet around until you uncover shells hiding in the sand. While others enjoy simply lounging in the white sand, additional options include floating or swimming in the calm water of Bowman’s Beach. The clear water is also a favorite place to frame photographs, with some of the best shots possible around sunset. The Sanibel Gulf beach additionally features a canoe and kayak launch, plus a fishing pier, picnic tables and room for grilling. As well, the beach offers bike racks, restrooms and a hiking trail. You won’t find any food for sale on the beach, as the closest restaurants are about a mile away. If you’re planning on saltwater fishing from shore don’t forget your license. Florida residents won’t pay a fee. You will pay by the hour to park at the beach, but it’s open from seven in the morning to seven at night, every day of the week.
