Gated Communities Dominate in Fort Myers

Three things that truly define Fort Myers are its grand beach, its tropical weather and its vast array of gated communities. Our gated communities come in more flavors than Baskin-Robbins.....have more choices than Forest Gump's box of chocolates....and have names that would even twist the tongue of a Starbucks Barista. With literally hundreds of communities to choose from, it can be very confusing for an out-of-towner or newcomer to search for a gated community home in the Fort Myers area. Two key decisions that can help to narrow your search are: (1) What type of amenities do you require and (2) What part of Fort Myers do you want to live in?

Fort Myers Riverside Real Estate

The most expensive and sought after real estate in Fort Myers is located along the Caloosahatchee River in South Fort Myers. This area includes neighborhoods located off both historic McGregor Boulevard and Iona Road. Both of these streets both run parallel to the river and are dominated by residential waterfront communities on their river-facing, west sides. McGregor Boulevard, which is lined with majestic royal palm trees, was home in the roaring 1920s to our original snowbirds.....Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone. Today, 90 years later, it is still home to prominent snowbirds as well as many of the movers and shakers of our community.

When drilling down further about what beach the client wants to be near, most answer near the Sanibel beaches. The proximity to Sanibel feature trumps all other popular desires including newer, good neighborhood, gated, gulf access, waterfront and low condo/HOA fees.

St. Charles Harbour Yacht Club continues to set the standard for luxury yachting communities in the Fort Myers area. This intimate community of just 82 single-family homes spread across 145 acres is truly a beautiful place.

Iona Fort Myers

One of the highlights of my week is perusing the Sunday Real Estate section of the News-Press. While Denny Grimes’ confession that he went to the “Sex in the City” movie this week brought a tear to my eye, the best article for me this week was the overview of the Iona-McGregor neighborhoods. Iona has […]

Red Sox invade Ft. Myers

The eyes of Red Sox Nation are on the City of Palms Like the Roman Army invading Gaul in 55 BC, Red Sox Nation has descended upon Ft. Myers for spring training. We are also fortunate to be the spring training home of the Minnesota Twins, although their presence is dwarfed by that of the […]
