A & W Bulb Road Area

A & W Bulb Road is located in South Fort Myers and runs from McGregor Boulevard to Gladiolus Drive.  A & W Bulb Road is home to several fine communities of both single-family homes and condominiums.

A & W Bulb Road draws its name from the A & W Bulb Company, which was one of the major gladiolus growers located in South Fort Myers in the mid 20th century.  During this timeframe, Fort Myers was known as the Gladiolus farm capital of the world. The gladiolus was brought to the region by some of the early settlers of Lee County who came from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg where the Gladiolus is very popular flower.  The favorable climate and rich fertile soil of South Fort Myers proved to be very beneficial to growing the gladiolus and these farms prospered until developers made it worthwhile to move elsewhere.
